When I used to visit Israel before I lived here, Rehov Aza was a street I had crossed many times in my walks through Rehavia. I had been to the hairdresser, bought delicious but expensive fruit from Yom Tov but it was not a place to “hang out”. In the past few years, the number of bars and cafes on Aza has grown and walking along Aza on a Friday has a much more intimate feel to it than Emek Refaim which I often now find to be over crowded. Aza is a popular destination with Israeli students who live in the some of the still affordable older buildings in surrounding Rehavia.
And the charm of area is growing, because following the success of the Aza street party on a Friday morning in May, this week there will be Lech LeAza Take 2.
The street party will take place on Wednesday October 26th from 7.30 to 11pm and will include music and movies in various locations. Activities include: all night movies in Cafe Yehoshua, Anita at Sushi Rehavia, the Oscar ceremony at Coffee Shop. There will be an old-fashioned “record” party and Fiddler on the Roof will be shown with violinist Alexei Bliib. Alice in Wonderland will include a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party and Coco Before Chanel will feature a second hand clothing sale!
All this and more, is free of charge, so make the most of the fun the holy city has to offer and head to Aza on Wednesday night!

Oh man that sounds great! I really like the old timey record player they’ve set up. Rechov Aza is a really charming place, and it’s got its share of good eats and cafes now too from what I remember. Hope you had fun there!
