Israel Foodie Roundup March 2019

As winter is finally coming to an end, spring brings with it some exciting new places all over the country. I am particularly excited about the new restaurants in the Alon Tower complex in Tel Aviv and the long-awaited opening of Jacko’s Son.

KOSHER

Jacko’s Son is a new bar next to Jacko’s Street, with a large selection of creative cocktails and an Asian menu with a Jerusalem twist. The bar runs almost the length of the restaurant, with a small lounge area at the back, as well as a live DJ. It is currently open with a trial menu by reservation only.

Pablo Mexican Cuisine has opened on Agripas next to Jacko’s Street. The interior design and artwork are super cool, so hopefully, the food will be as good.

Jerusalem has gone from having no Mexican food to new ones opening all over the city! Let’s hope they will all survive. As well as Mexican restaurants, the shuk seems to be overrun with new stalls selling sausages and knafe.

Knaf is actually offering something more unique as they serve meat knafe made to order. The options for the base include Asado and minced meat, as well as a vegetarian alternative. You can also add toppings like fried egg and various sauces. I have tried to have lunch there twice but they never seem to be ready, even at 1pm.

Kansai Sushi is a new sushi restaurant in the Alon Tower complex in Tel Aviv. Kansai’s first branch is in Petach Tikva and for now this branch will only be open for lunch.

Boutique Café on Rothschild has been taken over by Bake Off finalist Lior Koka, who recently opened an ice cream stall on Rothschild. The café’s new menu focuses on traditional dishes with a large selection of gluten-free options.
