Fontana Credit- Ben YusterMonthly Roundup

Israel Foodie Roundup June 2019

The summer is here in full force, and with it comes lots of fun food and wine festivals all over the country.  Fun Dining Week brings some madness to Tel Aviv restaurants;  Haim Cohen will turn Jaffa Tel Aviv into his restaurant in Ibiza, Aviv Moshe will turn Quattro into a vegan and vegetarian restaurant, and Victor Gloger will make Chloelys in the Hilton Tel Aviv into a Spanish restaurant.

The Jerusalem food truck festival, AutoOchel, is back, with participants including Anna Italian Kitchen, Angelica, 1868, Hasadna, Jacko’s Street, Cafe Asia and Chakra. All dishes are either NIS 35 or 25.

New openings include soft-serve ice cream to keep you cool and cocktail bars to hang out at night.

KOSHER

Chefchaouen is a Moroccan themed street food restaurant which has opened on Hillel Street in Jerusalem, in place of Berta. Dishes include Smoked Veal Burger in a black bun, Arais and Sabich with a poached egg.

Chef Yonatan Roshfeld’s Indian fast-food restaurant, Captain Curry in Sarona Market, is now Kosher. At this rate the whole market will soon be kosher.

Dunya by Meir Adoni has opened in Azrieli Center, outside the mall on Menachem Begin, offering a selection of street food, click here for the full menu.

SoftServe Vaniglia is a new soft serve chain from Vaniglia Ice Cream with the first branch in Azrieli Mall. All the ice cream is homemade, in a variety of flavors.

Resto French Kitchen on HaHashmonaim opposite the Fashion Mall in Tel Aviv has closed as a French meat restaurant and reopened as Resto Presto, an Italian dairy restaurant.  I always liked the food but the service and ambiance was a let down so hopefully they will make it work this time.

Reception is a new cocktail and wine bar in Givatayim with a dairy bar food menu which includes risotto, cheese ravioli, beet gnocchi, tuna tartar and Caesar salad.

Freshit is a new fresh salad bar in Herzliya Pituach, behind Max Brenner where BarBQue used to be – yes the name is very unfortunate!

Biga Bakery has opened a new chain called Biga Pasta Bar, with a branch in Nesher in Haifa (Mehadrin) and another one in Caesaria.

NOT KOSHER

Fontana, 65 Hotel, Tel Aviv, is a cocktails bar on the veranda of the hotel at the heart of Rothschild Boulevard. The bar is a combined project between the Imperial Group and Atlas Hotels. The cocktail menu includes a variety of gin and tonic and martini drinks, as well as bar food, such as salad nicoise, corned beef sandwich and roasted cauliflower.

Chef Guy Gamzo has opened a second branch of Nununu in Azrieli Mall, serving his signature gourmet sandwiches, including pulled beef, mac & cheese, Dutch herring, and barbeque chicken. The new branch is planned to be a pop-up for the summer, but hopefully, it will be a success and become permanent.

The Schechter’s, La Park, Holon, is an American barbecue/smokehouse restaurant inspired by famous Jewish delicacies in New York, combined with Southern-style smoked food. As well as smoked meats, another focus of the restaurant will be the dessert buffet.

Roberta’s Burger is the sister restaurant to Roberta Vinci pizzeria in Karkur. The restaurant is an Israeli take on an American diner, serving a variety of burgers and toppings, and traditional sweet options including soft-serve ice cream and milkshakes.

  1. Hi,

Your AutoOchel link goes to the wrong FB page.

It certainly would be helpful if you gave at least the dates and location.

    • That is the right page and the location information is there if you scroll down. They have only released the information for the first week but all the updates are made on that facebook page.
