Israel Foodie Roundup July 2019

July is a quiet month for new restaurant openings, but that does not mean there isn’t any news. David and Yossef group have opened Pita Montana in the Namal Tel Aviv and Rotisserie Chicken Club has replaced Kukuriku in Sarona Market.

The Jerusalem food truck festival, AutoOchel, is still going until the end of August, every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening. All dishes are either NIS 35 or 25 and the menu is published on the facebook page at the beginning of each week, www.facebook.com/AmphiBagai/

The Jerusalem Wine Festival has been and gone (read more here) but there is still the Jerusalem Beer Fest to look forward to at the end of August.

KOSHER

Miss Brown is a Tiramisu stand in The First Station, Jerusalem, by Amit Reubinoff. As well as the classic tiramisu, the stand also serves variations on the classic including Oreo, Coconut Crunch, Marshmallow, Popcorn Lotus, Kinder, White Chocolate & Cherries, and Nutella & Banana.

Partigiano is a new pizza restaurant on Ben Yehuda in Jerusalem which serves authentic Rome style pizza.

OrienTop is a new rooftop restaurant on the roof of the Orient Jerusalem Hotel. The roof has breathtaking panoramic views of Jerusalem, including the Old City walls.

Pita Montana is a new meat street food stand in the Namal Tel Aviv from the David and Yossef group, owned by chefs Yosef Shitrit and David Almakias. The chefs have partnered with Udi Gindi, a well-known butcher in Tel Aviv. The name is a tribute to Montana Ice Cream which was in the same building in the 1970s. The group plan to open more branches in the future.

Tasting Room in Sarona Market has reopened and is now under the ownership of Whiskey Bar & Museum with a Tzohar hechsher. For those not familiar with the concept, the wine bar allows you to purchase various wine tasting packages which can be use to taste from an automatic pouring system with over 30 different types of wine of various sizes and price levels. For now they have a trial menu which includes a cheese platter, burrata, various salads and desserts.

Rotisserie Chicken Club has opened its third branch in Sarona Market.  As well as grilled chicken, they also serve chicken salad, chicken sandwich, sweet potato chips and roasted potatoes. It has replaced Kukuriku by Ran Shmueli.

Sisilia Italiana is a new dairy Italian restaurant on Rothschild where Allora used to be,  by the same owners as Funky Sisilia in Hod Hasharon. The rustic menu includes a selection of pizzas, pastas and wines from boutique wineries.

Bodega Food Truck is an American style food truck in Ramat Gan by Chef Todd Aarons and James Oppenheim, who are both former partners at Crave in Jerusalem. The food truck serves burgers and sandwiches with Mexican flavors and fresh nachos. Bodega does not have more typical Mexican food like tacos and burritos but the chef is trying to introduce some new food to Israel.

NOT KOSHER

Stolero is a new beach restaurant in the Gordon Marina. The restaurant includes a cocktail bar and offers spectacular views of the sea. The chef is Eitan Doron, an Israeli chef who recently returned from Australia, where he headed a restaurant called Half Acre in Melbourne.

OTHER NEWS

The Sucre Group who own Kitchen Market, Onza and  Mashya, are opening Magreb Deli on Yigal Alon, under the Alon Towers.

Chef Meir Adoni will be opening his first restaurant in Jerusalem. The kosher restaurant will be in the Crowne Plaza Jerusalem, He is also rumored to be opening a kosher version of Nur in the future.

Chef Eyal Shani has opened his third branch of Miznon in Paris, bringing the total to ten branches worldwide. As well as three branches in Tel Aviv, Shani also has branches of Miznon in Vienna, Melbourne and two in New York City. He recently opened Seven North in Vienna, which is similar to his North Abraxas restaurant in Tel Aviv.

Mel & Michelle Italian restaurant in Tel Aviv will close at the end of August after 13 years in business.

  1. Can you give an approximate cost for dinner at the Orientop Isrotel in Jerusalem. I cannot find an details at the Orient Hotel site.
